ABOUT

An RYT 200 hour qualified teacher, Vanessa has practiced vinyasa and ashtanga yoga for several years. She is a dedicated ashtanga student with a full 6 day week yoga practice, something she believes is crucial as a yoga teacher. Vanessa teaches with compassion and respect for each individual’s needs but always encourages students to work beyond the limitations of their mind, so they may experience the benefits of Ashtanga: a light and strong body, improved circulation and a calm mind.

Develop a light and strong body, calm your busy mind and improve your circulation with this traditional and dynamic method of yoga.

Ashtanga yoga involves synchronizing the breath with a progressive series of postures which builds internal heat in the body encouraging a purifying sweat that detoxifies muscles and organs. Vanessa teaches guided classes and Mysore style classes which are both suitable for all abilities.

MYSORE STYLE

First of all, what is Mysore style? Mysore is named after the South Indian town in which the late K Pattabhi Jois taught from the late 1930s until his death in 2009.

Mysore style is the traditional way of practicing Ashtanga yoga which allows a highly personalised approach with all the benefits of the group energy from a conventional class. Your teacher will know your name and know your practice inside out. You can drop into a mysore session at any time and stay for as long as you wish. For beginners, this could be half an hour, and for the more advanced up to an hour and 45 minutes. A Mysore room is characterized by the sound of breath – a powerful, rhythmic breath which generates heat in the body. Everyone is practicing the same sequence but working at their own pace. Mysore practice gives you the space to focus. The cue to move on to the next posture comes from your own breath, instead of a teacher’s instructions.

It is a wonderful way for beginners and advanced practitioners alike to develop a self-practice that you can then take anywhere as part of the practice is to slowly memorise the sequence.
