Ballet – Pre School to Advanced 2 Classes

The Linda Virgoe Dance Studios is a Royal Academy of Dancing (RAD) Approved Dance School and as such follows the RAD syllabus for teaching and examinations

Pre Primary and Primary Classes

The Pre-Primary in Dance and Primary in Dance syllabi was launched in January 2009. The syllabi have been devised to provide a strong foundation for future dance training that is appropriate and relevant to young children of today. Fun to do and rewarding to teach, these syllabi help to develop children’s physical skills, stamina, creativity, and expression and musicality using a range of sounds and musical styles.

Grade 1 upwards

The Graded syllabus consists of three different components; classical, free movement and character dance

The Classical work is the foundation and the most important part of the Graded Syllabi.

Free movement

The free movement section incorporates movements in common with other dance styles such as natural movement, contemporary based dance and Greek dance.

Character dance

Character dance is the theatrical presentation of national dance using original ethnic dance and music which has been freely adapted for the theatre. There are three styles – Hungarian, Russian and Polish – and these were selected because of their historic importance in the development of the traditional full-length classical ballets.

Modern, Jazz and Tap – Primary to Advanced 2 Classes

The Linda Virgoe Dance Studio is an Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing (ISTD) Approved Dance Centre and follows their syllabus for teaching and examinations.

Modern and Jazz

In the Modern and Jazz syllabi, young people are trained to become disciplined and versatile dancers who have a professional attitude towards dance. A series of examinations has been created from children’s grades through to professional teaching qualifications. The children’s work is based on natural movements: walking, running, jumping and skipping. It is designed to encourage an imaginative and rapid response from beginners. The Jazz Awards provide a basic grounding in modern jazz, and are ideal for the late beginner or as a recreational course of movement. Boys’ work has been developed to meet increasing demand for a modern dance training for boys.

Tap for all

Apart from being an essential skill for the professional dancer, tap dance is one of the most enjoyable and rhythmic forms of recreational dance. The ISTD offers a series of examinations from Children’s grades through to professional teaching qualifications.

Private Lessons

Private lessons are available for students at all levels. Personalised programmes are also available. Please contact the Studios for more information.
